Single Cask Series: Cask No. 1494

There’s an intensely balanced smoky sweetness, driven by Orkney’s unique heathery peat, that runs like DNA through our whisky. But every single cask of Highland Park is also absolutely unique and reveals its own distinctive characteristics. Each year, our Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion, selects a small number of our most exceptional casks to be bottled for our Single Cask Series, celebrating the spirit of individuality and the authentic craftsmanship that lies at the heart of our whisky making.

This superb whisky matured for 20 years in Cask #1494, a first-fill, sherry-seasoned European oak butt. Laid down on 17 March 2003 and tipped on 21 March 2023, it yielded just 564 bottles of this exquisite, non-chill filtered Highland Park single malt Scotch whisky.

Bearing all the hallmarks of Highland Park’s uniquely complex balance of sweet and smoky flavours, this whisky displays beautifully deep and autumnal russet hues, driven entirely naturally by the cask it matured in. Enticing aromas of dried strawberries, peat-smoked oranges, aromatic cloves and crumbled brown sugar are followed by deliciously rich notes of fruit streusel dusted with cinnamon, and infused with delicate peat smoke. Spicy and lightly smoky notes linger at the finish, with just a hint of freshly cut wood.
