It’s shaping up to be a truly creative Christmas season in Orkney this year and we’re delighted to share news of some exciting collaborations and exhibitions over the coming weeks. We hope you can join us!

The Days Never Seem the Same: Gunnie Moberg & Margaret Tait
Northlight Gallery, Stromness
3rd – 17th November
Bringing together the late Orkney-based artists Gunnie Moberg (1941-2007) and Margaret Tait (1918-1999), Northlight’s The Days Never Seem the Same exhibition will present a small selection of work hand-picked from the exhibition of the same name held by Edinburgh’s Stills Gallery from July to October this year.

Gunnie Moberg print collection
Through a creative collaboration established earlier this year with Stills, Highland Park funded the production, framing and travel costs for a major new body of work by Gunnie Moberg. Originally exhibited by Stills as part of the Edinburgh International Festival 2018, the collection comprises the last photographs that Gunnie made in her garden outside Stromness. Using multiple exposures on medium format transparencies, this is a hauntingly beautiful suite of images exploring a wind-blown garden in constant motion.

Margaret Tait 100 celebrations
Looking In, Looking Out, is part of The Days Never Seem the Same exhibition and will feature a selection of Tait’s silent films displayed in Northlight’s gallery window on certain evenings. Coinciding with the Film Focus Festival, which takes place across Orkney from 1st – 24th November, Looking In, Looking Out is also part of a wider series of screenings and events to mark the centenary of Tait’s birth. Margaret Tait 100 has been coordinated by LUX Scotland, the University of Stirling and the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness.
