Father’s Day is a time to honour those we love. Ken shared a very special story with us and now we’d like to share it with you, our tribe.
One of the many challenges of fatherhood is embracing the unpredictability of life. Ken and his father Jim have always enjoyed sharing a whisky together. After Ken emigrated from Scotland to Australia, he and Jim started a tradition of buying the same bottle of whisky in Sydney and in Edinburgh, so that they could continue to share this special bond, however many miles divided them. After a number of years (and a number of samples!), Jim decided his favourite was Highland Park 30 Year Old.
Sadly, Jim passed away in 2017 after a brave battle with leukaemia. Last year, to honour his father’s memory, Ken embarked on a 12-day trek through the Himalayas to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation, carrying a bottle of Highland Park HARALD with him, every step of the way. Facing temperatures as low as -27°C and altitudes of up to 5,650 metres, Ken travelled to Base Camp and climbed to the peak of Kala Pathar, enjoying a well-earned whisky at the top.
Thank you Ken for sharing your very special story. Your father would be so proud. Ken has raised over $6,000 AUD for charity and if you’d like to make a donation too, please visit his fundraising page.
