To bring our short film, Orkney Stories, to life, we invited creative, Gwendoline Christie to our Orkney Island home. We visited some of the historical iconic landmarks of the islands to experience the extraordinary nature of Orkney. Explore the locations captured in our film.
Orkney Stories was created and directed by Charlie Thomas, whose impressive career of over 20 years includes the marketing and branding of companies in the fields of fashion, art and design, including roles as Visual Director for Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney.
The film was captured by Scottish Production Company, LS Productions, whose previous partners include Valentino and Bentley. Filming took place at some of Orkney’s most captivating and historic locations including Aikerness Beach and The Broch of Gurness.
Aikerness Beach and The Broch of Gurness
Aikerness Beach can be found on the northwest coast of mainland Orkney and boasts Caribbean esque sands and sea, beautifully capturing the rhythm of the islands. Orkney is an archipelago of 70 islands, 20 of which are inhabited.
At the east side of Aikerness Bay is the Broch of Gurness, an extraordinary example of Orkney’s rich archaeological heritage. The Broch is an impressive Iron Age complex and outstanding example of a later prehistoric settlement to survive in Scotland. Orkney is renowned for its 5,000 years of unique history with monuments and historical sites located across the islands.
