GOING THAT EXTRA MILE
GOING THAT EXTRA MILE
Giving back to the community that we are proud to be part of, here in Orkney, is part of life for the distillery team. In fact, everyone who works for Highland Park has four days’ paid volunteering work a year.
This year, the team’s long list of community volunteering projects has included erecting a marquee and carrying out gardening work for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations at St Rognvald’s House; working with the archaeology team to prepare for the opening up of Ness of Brodgar; helping out at RSPB Nature Reserves across the islands; making a giant ‘Guess Who’ game for the RSPB to take around local schools; and carrying out specialist repairs for Girlguiding Orkney at their cottage in Orphir. Members of the team are currently working on repairing the hide and fencing at RSPB Cottasgarth and working at Burray Primary School to create a nature pond.
There’s absolutely no doubt that the diverse skills and talents of the whole team have been invaluable to the community over the summer months and everyone has thoroughly enjoyed seeing their hard work benefit so many people – even if the weather has occasionally been less than supportive of their efforts.
While our team are no strangers to going that extra mile – both in their work at the Distillery every day and through their regular volunteering commitments - they certainly deserve a special mention for the ‘messy business’ of cleaning out the moat for the John Rae Society at Hall of Clestrain!
