“Ola Dubh (pronounced ‘ola-doo’) is a real labour of love for our brew team. We take our Old Engine Oil and mature it in whisky casks from the award-winning Orkney distillery and our good friends, Highland Park. The process is far from simple but the end result is a beautiful brew with complimentary whisky notes and a chocolate, roasty and bittersweet aftertaste.”
It’s International Beer Day on 7th August, so there couldn’t be a better time to talk about our partnership with Scottish-based Harviestoun Brewery and tell you more about their stunning dark ale, Ola Dubh 12 Year Old Whisky Aged, matured for six months in casks that previously held 12 Year Old Viking Honour.

Established in 1983, Harviestoun Brewery is a family-run business. The company’s two Chairmen, Sandy Orr and Donald MacDonald, are dedicated to their craft and committed to producing brilliant and innovative natural brews, using the finest local ingredients and pure Scottish water. The quality of their beer means that they are not only one of the most awarded breweries in the UK, but have strong relationships with leading outlets and a growing band of fans across the world. In fact it was their export partner in the US who encouraged them to develop a barrel-aged ale. With Highland Park wining Distiller of the Year and Harviestoun Brewery winning the World Beer Awards, both in 2007, there was an obvious fit and we look forward to launching further collaborations later this year.
