How was Release No. 1 of the Discovery Selection series created?

Every so often, a cask reveals such intriguing complexity or distinctive character that our Master Whisky Maker, Gordon Motion, sets it to one side. Sharing these extraordinary casks, which bear all the hallmarks of Highland Park yet reveal their own unique personality, is the inspiration behind our new Discovery Selection single cask bottlings.

Discovery Selection Release No. 1 comes from Cask 2863, a first-fill, sherry seasoned, American oak butt laid down in 1998 and left to mature for 20 years in Warehouse 12 at our Kirkwall distillery. Bottled in 2019 at 57.9% ABV, it’s a warm and spicy single malt revealing notes of sweet pastry, a dusting of aromatic spices and tangy lemon zest, wrapped in a cloud of gentle peat smoke.

 

What can you tell me about the character of this whisky?

Natural Colour: Deep golden russet

Tasting Notes: Warm pastry | Aromatic spices | Lemon peel | Root ginger | Gentle aromatic peat smoke

ABV: 57.9%

 

How much does this whisky cost?

Discovery Selection Release No. 1 will be available at a UK price of £48.00 for a 5cl bottle, available first for members of our Inner Circle. For orders placed in our online shop for delivery to addresses outside the UK, the price will vary due to local sales taxes and duties. Delivery charges will also apply and will vary from country to country, based on the standard rates applied for a tracked package applied by our delivery partner, DHL. PURCHASING QUESTIONS

Where and when will Discovery Selection Release No. 1 be available?

Just 3,400 5cl bottles will be available and we are offering them first to our Inner Circle members. They can be purchased from the Highland Park online shop via the exclusive link included in the email sent to all members on the 27th May. We’ve also made a very limited number of bottles available on a first come, first served basis at our Albert Street store in Kirkwall from 10am on 28^th May 2021. If you would like to make a purchase in person, please bring along a copy of the Inner Circle newsletter to show you’re a genuine Inner Circle member.

 

How many bottles can I buy?

Due to its very limited nature, purchases of Discovery Selection Release No. 1 are restricted to two bottles per order to ensure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to buy.

 

DELIVERY QUESTIONS

Which countries can Discovery Selection Release No. 1 be delivered to?

As with all whiskies sold through our online shop, we are able to offer delivery of this release to Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, the UK and the Channel Islands. Unfortunately, for legal reasons, we are not able to offer delivery to other countries at this stage although we are continuing to work on a solution to this.

As a consequence of BREXIT, we are temporarily unable to ship whisky to France, Italy, Poland and Sweden.

 

Do I have to be a resident of one of these countries to make a purchase?

No, you don’t need to be resident in one of the countries noted above, but you do need to be able to give us a shipping address within one of them.

 

Why is this whisky not available for delivery to my country of residence?

There are different legal issues that affect our ability to deliver whisky ordered online to addresses outside the UK. We are continuing to work on a solution that will allow us to deliver to a wider range of countries in the future.

 

What extra charges might apply for deliver to my chosen country?

All the whiskies we sell are subject to UK alcohol tax. If we are exporting products to an address in the European Union (EU) prices are subject to the appropriate rate of VAT and alcohol tax depending on the delivery country.

For all deliveries outside of the EU, UK VAT will not be charged. However, your order will be subject to local sales taxes and duties upon arrival in your chosen country, which are levied at the time the package clears customs. All additional charges are the responsibility of the recipient. As customs policies vary widely from country to country, we have no control over these charges. Please contact your local customs office for further information.

 

When will I receive my order of Discovery Selection Release No. 1?

We expect most orders to be delivered within 10 working days of receiving your payment. If you have not received your bottle within this time, please contact [email protected] and we’ll come back to you with an update as soon as we can.

 

Who will deliver my whisky?

Your order will be fulfilled by our fulfilment partners Mail Marketing UK and will be delivered by DHL.

 

Can I specify a delivery date?

Yes. You will receive a shipment notification from DHL that allows you to track your delivery and delay until a specific date using the ‘holiday hold’ option.

 

What happens if my order of Discovery Selection Release No. 1 is damaged in transit?

In the highly unlikely event of this happening, we’d ask you to contact us within three working days of receiving your order by emailing [email protected]. You should provide as much information as possible, including your order number, details of the damage and photographic evidence if possible. We will do our very best to provide a replacement if we can – and if we can’t, we will refund the full cost of the whisky. Please note that compensation will not be paid.
