This deliciously fruity and rich 21 YEAR OLD 2024 RELEASE is crafted from just 48 casks – 25 first-fill, sherry-seasoned American oak quarter casks, 15 refill butts and 8 first-fill, sherry-seasoned European hogsheads – all laid down in 2001 and 2002 and hand selected by Gordon Motion, our Master Whisky Maker. By combining three different cask types, Gordon has created a superb single malt Scotch whisky that is both satisfyingly rich and intriguingly complex.
Slow maturation allows the distinctive flavours of the first-fill casks to come vibrantly to the fore – intense vanilla and citrus fruit from the smaller American oak quarter casks and warm spices and dried fruit from European oak hogsheads. The refill butts balance the influence of oak from the first-fill casks, adding softer notes of lightly smoked wood and floral sweetness, while bottling the whisky at its marrying strength of 46% ensures a rich and full-bodied finish with a citrus tang that beautifully complements lingering notes of fresh apricots and sweet wood smoke.
