In winemaking, they call it terroir - the taste of a place; the unique set of all environmental factors that shape a wine. In our Orcadian Vintage Series, we celebrate the terroir of Orkney. But we go further. For us, it is not just about environmental factors, it is also the complex balance between environment, skill, hard work, and patience.
In 1964, 2 refill hogshead casks (numbers 8737 and 8738) began their long and even-paced maturation in Orkney. They were hand-selected for their exceptional character and tipped and bottled in 2009. The resulting 290 bottles of 45-year-old whisky are brimming with notes of toffee, dried strawberries, gingerbread, crushed black pepper, crème brûlée, cinnamon bark, toasted vanilla pods, and a beautiful depth of aromatic peat smoke.
Each whisky in the Orcadian Vintage Series is presented in an exquisite wooden box which features marquetry inspired by the intricate wood carvings at the Urnes Stave Church in Norway and the Highland Park amulet, hand-crafted in silver.
