When we launched Cask Strength Release No. 1 in September last year, we described it as ‘Molten Toffee Logfire’. Those three little words captured both its very individual flavour profile and the interest of whisky fans around the world…
This single malt has been bottled straight from the cask - no added water, no chill filtration, nothing but pure Highland Park DNA down to the very last measure. Matured predominantly in sherry seasoned American oak casks, Cask Strength Release No. 1 is sweet and smoky on the nose. You’ll detect notes of soft butterscotch, heather honey, freshly grated nutmeg and sun-kissed citrus fruit coming through with delicious hints of warm crème brûlée and exotic Eastern spices in the long and lingering finish. At 63.3% ABV, this whisky is to be served the way you want it – no rules, no restrictions, just a whole new taste adventure as you experiment with adding water, ice or other ingredients.
We’re running our #ServeYourself campaign throughout March on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter so look out for posts and get in on the conversation by sharing your own favourite serve using the #ServeYourself hashtag. To kick things off, how are our resident experts serving Cask Strength?
Please enjoy responsibly.
Short and sweet
We’d never dare to describe Martin Markvardsen, our Senior Brand Ambassador (and ex-professional boxer) as short and sweet, but that’s certainly how he likes his Cask Strength – he simply adds a couple of splashes of spring water and swirls it around in the glass.
Italian-born Sergio Paolo, our Distillery Brand Manager, calls his serve the ‘Orkney Chill’ and recommends popping a glass in the freezer for about half an hour then pouring in a measure of Cask Strength and adding a few drops of room temperature water. According to Sergio, the chilled glass will enhance the flavours and aromas while the water will deliver a smooth taste experience.
King of Kirkwall
UK Brand Ambassador Teddy Joseph loves Cask Strength as the base of a cocktail. A big fan of fortified wines and bitters, he’s created this spectacular serve to harmonise the vibrant honey and toffee notes of the whisky with unexpected bittersweet and fruit flavours.
35ml Highland Park Cask Strength
25ml Sweet vermouth
2 barspoons of rhubarb and ginger preserve
Combine all the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and stir until you’re happy with the dilution, then strain into an ice-filled rocks glass and garnish with an orange twist.
Less is more
Weilun Huang in Taiwan shares Martin’s philosophy – a few splashes of fresh drinking water are all he needs for his favourite serve, and he loves the way the aromas change as the water is added.
Please always enjoy responsibly.
