We’ve marked International Viking Day – the day our Viking ancestors would shed their winter clothes and prepare their longships for the year ahead – by embarking on our very own adventure in the heart of Kirkwall. We’ve opened the doors and welcomed the world into our first ever Highland Park store.
As well as a retail space offering merchandise and whiskies and a tasting room, our new visitor experience store includes a gallery featuring works from local creatives. Orkney based photographer and digital influencer, Kendra Towns, is the first to be featured, with a collection of images inspired by the light on the islands.

Hello and goodbye!
Patricia Retson, who has welcomed over half a million visitors to Orkney during her 20-year career with Highland Park, helped us to officially open the new store. A recent recipient of the whisky industry’s prestigious Keepers of the Quaich accolade, Patricia retired from her role as Senior VP and Education Host at our Distillery in April 2019, having helped us create a multi award-winning visitor experience.
Seven new members of staff have joined the new store with an additional four joining the team during the summer season.
Sustainability is high on our agenda, there will be no plastic bags used on the premises and we have a new range of merchandise in development, featuring materials crafted from reusable plastics.
