Earlier this year we released VALKNUT, the second in our three-part Viking Legend Series, inspired by Norse mythology and Orkney’s rich Viking heritage. VALKNUT, like VALKYRIE, was created in partnership with Danish designer and Viking Soul, Jim Lyngvild, and our new short film provides an insight into Jim’s extraordinary creative journey.
Jim’s design for the VALKNUT pendant, which glows vividly on our whisky’s packaging, was inspired by two important Nordic sources in Gotland, Sweden; the film shows Jim exploring the first of the four Stora Hammars stones and also the picture stone at Tängelgårda. From interpreting these sources to creating fire in his studio, Jim’s artistic process has to be seen to be believed. We can’t wait to see where he takes us with the final expression in the series. Look out! VALFATHER is coming next year…

Valknut means ‘knot of those slain in battle’ and its symbol of three interlinked triangles is closely associated with the great Norse god, Odin. According to Norse mythology, Viking warriors who met an honourable death on the battlefield were marked out by the symbol of the Valknut and spirited away to Valhalla to join Odin’s mighty army and prepare for Ragnarök, the battle of the end of the world.
Matured predominantly in sherry seasoned European and American oak casks, we created VALKNUT using a small but significant amount of Orkney-grown Tartan barley to add a distinctly smoky edge to the whisky’s sweet, spicy and beautifully lingering finish.
Bottled at 46.8% ABV, VALKNUT is naturally light and gold in colour and delivers bold notes of sweet aromatic cloves with tangy hints of aniseed. Toasted vanilla pods, cracked black pepper and a hint of oak shavings are offset by Highland Park’s signature aromatic peat smoke.
With a recommended retail price of £58.00 for a 700ml or 750ml bottle (depending on country), VALKNUT is now available from specialist whisky stores around the world.
