Highland Park’s purpose is to honour the proud spirit of Orkney and we place great importance on developing partnerships in our island home that allow us to give something back to the community we’re part of.
Working in partnership with the Ness of Brodgar Trust, we’ve released a special edition bottling this summer – NESS OF BRODGAR’S LEGACY – with a percentage of the proceeds from sales going towards the Trust’s archaeological dig in the Heart of Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site. Their excavation work is critical to building a global understanding of the people who lived here thousands of years before us.
NESS OF BRODGAR’S LEGACY is priced at a UK RSP of £55 for a 700ml bottle. It has been bottled at a marrying strength of 46% ABV to intensify the whisky’s distinctive flavours of sweet heather honey, rich fruitcake, warm winter spices, orange zest and aromatic peat smoke. Available from both our distillery shop and our new visitor experience store at 58 Albert Street from 1st July, NESS OF BRODGAR’S LEGACY will also be sold through our online shop from 8th July.
Ness of Brodgar
Ness of Brodgar is a unique 5,000 year old community complex, as shown in this spectacular shot by photographer, Hugo Anderson Whymark. The history of Ness is curiously entwined with our own. Orkney’s earliest Neolithic settlers would have been attracted by our light fertile soil, abundant natural resources and temperate climate. Cultivating the land, they introduced barley – a crucial ingredient of our whisky – and they burned Orkney’s rich, heathery peat, just as we do in our kilns today.
The dig at Ness of Brodgar is only open for a short period of time over the summer – from Monday 1st July until Friday 23rd August. If you’d like to find out more, please check out the Trust’s website.
